My kids love burgers, especially my son. It’s one of the best ways to reward (or bribe) him for good behaviour.
I have a way of fast tracking burger making without having to handle mince and make up the burger patties.
The filling for these beef sliders is grated cheese, mayo, seasoned beef mince, more cheese and mayo.
The buns are heated in the oven until the slider buns are heated through and the cheese is melted and gooey.
I think the best bit about this recipe is the gooey melted cheese but if you’re like my husband, and don’t like cheese, then you could remove a layer or don’t use it at all.
I love these sliders with caramelized onions in them and I’ve included the method for this down below but don’t feel obliged to add this extra bit if you want to save yourself an extra step.
Admittedly, it’s not a true burger; there is no lettuce or raw vegetables in these sliders but you could certainly serve them with a side salad and chips (fries).
medium brown onion, chopped
slider buns or bread rolls
grated tasty cheese
gouda (or other cheese of your choice)
tomato or bbq sauce
For Caramelized Onion (optional)
Heat the oil in a pan on medium and fry the onions and garlic until soft.
Add the mince and cook, stirring frequently until the meat is no longer pink.
Add the paprika, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper to taste.
Add the flour and stir to thicken the mixture.
Cut the slider or burger buns lengthways and place the bottom halves into a baking tray.
Brush the buns with mayo then sprinkle grated cheese on top.
Spoon the mince mixture over the cheese in an even layer.
Top the mince with cheese slices and drizzle with tomato or bbq sauce or top with caramelized onion (if using).
Place the remaining halves of the slider buns on top and brush the tops with melted butter.
Place the buns in the oven for approx. 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the buns are heated through. Serve and enjoy!
For Caramelized Onions
Heat butter in a pan on low to medium heat and cook the onions until they are soft but not browned.
Add the brown sugar and stir through the onions until they are coated and the sugar has dissolved.
Add the balsamic vinegar and stir through the mixture.
Set aside to use on sliders or as a condiment with other dishes.
